Bayfront Health Port Charlotte sent out the letter in early July. The family says the wording from the CFO threatened the family with legal action if they did not comply. Her prenatal providers planned to turn her into to the Department of Children and Family Services if she did not comply and have a C-section. It took Jennifer’s plea to social media to gain support. Thousands have backed her effort with their comments on Facebook. One of those supporters included the International Cesarean Awareness Network or ICAN. “So we have the right to refuse surgery. And this was something that wasn’t a medically necessary surgery. It isn’t about safety.

Im an ordinary Amish housewife and mother and, yes, I love it. My husband Daniel and I have been blessed with over four years of marriage. We were thrilled when God added a baby girl to our hearts and lives 2 1/2 years ago. We named her Julia Rose. She is our little sunshine. We also anticipate the arrival of another bundle in November. Julia is all excited about being a big sister. We live in a quiet country area and enjoy spending time outdoors, especially going on picnics and camping trips. A week ago we had the opportunity to go with my family to the Embarras River for a camp-out. We had a wonderful time together.

Police and prosecutors believe Natalie’s father, Hector Francisco Saavedra Ruiz, killed the infant. Saavedra Ruiz told detectives Natalie was crying but became quiet as the two drove to the restaurant where he worked, according to court documents. Saavedra Ruiz said he thought his daughter was sleeping, but later realized she wasn’t breathing. He said “the baby gasped,” and he panicked and drove back to his apartment, where a neighbor called 911. The doctors who later treated Natalie said her injuries were consistent with shaken baby syndrome. Doctors later discovered the girl had a fractured rib, hemorrhaging at the back of her head and bruising in the lower abdominal area. The baby also had a perforated colon caused by blunt force trauma, according to the sheriff’s department. DesRochers said she never imagined Saavedra Ruiz would hurt his own daughter when she agreed to let him watch the child last week. “I eventually gave in and he left and he came back an hour later and she was gone,” she said. DesRochers said Saavedra Ruiz abused her, but she kept coming back to him.

The baby was born on July 5 in Memphis. After a medical staff determined the baby was addicted to illegal drugs, they contacted Tennessee Department of Children Services, according to the police report. DCS then turned a report over to Memphis Police Department on Thursday. Police issued a warrant for 30-year-old Jamillah Washingtonwho has been previously booked under the name Fallsfollowing an investigation by sex crimes and juvenile abuse detectives. The mother has been arrested within the past few years for various traffic violations and possession of a substance with intent to sell. Most recently in 2013, police charged her with obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and forging a prescription. Those with information are asked to callCrimeStoppers at 528-CASH. This marks the first charge by MPD under Tennessee’s new law that criminalizes drug use while pregnant; that went into effect July 1. Groups like Healthy and Free Tennessee and National Advocates for Pregnant Womenfought against the law’s passage with several other groups. CHOICES Memphis Center for Reproductive Healthexecutive director Rebecca Terrell saysmedical experts have long recognized that newborns can be born dependent as a result of prenatal exposure to opioids as well as other prescription drugs like anti-depressants. These children are not prone to relapse and will not exhibit compulsive drug-seeking behaviors, Terrell says, of the condition labeled addiction. “Labeling this infant as ‘addicted’ is inflammatory language that does a disservice to a complicated issue,” she said.”Women struggling with addiction need health care not handcuffs.” Governor Bill Haslam signed the measure into law and stated at the time, “The intent of this bill is to give law enforcement and district attorneys a tool to address illicit drug use among pregnant women through treatment programs.” Sister Reach Founder and CEO Cherisse Scott says it looks like the legislators and lawmakers who sponsored this bill were lying. She believes the rehab component is taking a back seat to arrests of women like Washington. “We are dealing with women who have a medical issue that needs to be attended to, and what they don’t need is to be placed in jail,” Scott said. “I think we were definitely afraid that women were going to do what they needed to do in order to avoid jail time.” The law will automatically be reassessed after two years.

Friends, relatives grieve for MH17 passengers – CNN.com

The passengers and crew aboard Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 came from around the world and held a wide range of hopes and dreams. While the identities of the 298 people aboard have not been release by the airline, CNN has been able to confirm some of them via family, friends and social media.

“But it was precious. Little did I know all the stuff that was wrong with him and what he was getting ready to have to endure.” Most adults may have some kind of surgery in their lifetime, possibly later in life. But young Solomon, at the tender age of almost five months, has already had multiple surgeries, including two eye surgeries and surgery on his tiny stomach. He has also been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, which is a group of disorders that can involve brain and nervous system functions, such as movement, learning, hearing, seeing, and thinking. Because of his problems, Sarah has to take him to Vanderbilt in Nashville on a regular basis for appointments. It is hard considering she is a single mother with another child who is autistic. Because she has to be a full-time caregiver for her two boys, she cannot work. This lack of work has left her struggling to pay for the trips to Vanderbilt. Seeing the need, a fundraising site has been set up to help pay for medical expenses and the expenses involved in traveling to Nashville, such as gas and motel stays. The address is http://www.gofundme.com/for-solomon. Almost $2,000 has already been raised for Solomon, and a Facebook group has also been set-up for him.An account has been set up at SunTrust bank, as well so any person can walk into any SunTrust bank and ask to put money in an account under the name Solomon James Roger and it will go to the family. She said she’s not looking for a handout but asking for help. Sarah said she would easily do the same for any others who needed it. Solomon is blind and has very little muscle in his body, Sarah saying maybe one percent muscle. He has a spine that bulges out and curves.

The victims were on their way to the International AIDS Conference that is scheduled to begin this weekend in Melbourne, Australia. They were flying from the Netherlands to Australia, via Kuala Lumpur. One of the victims is prominent Dutch scientist Joep Lange , a pioneer in HIV research and a former president of the International AIDS Society, which organizes the conference. His partner Jacqueline van Tongeren was also on the flight with him, says the Health[e] Foundation, co-founded by Lange. MH17 crashes one day after new sanctions Ukraine says audio incriminates rebels “He was a real hardcore scientist, but on the other hand, he really had the heart of an activist. He was quite bold and a little bit of a troublemaker,” said Albert Wu, professor at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Wu had helped Lange plan the 1991 AIDS conference. “(Lange) was one of the first people to advocate spreading HIV medications to Africa,” says Wu. At the time, the medication wasn’t being delivered because of refrigeration problems. “He said, ‘If Coca-Cola can deliver cold beverages to Africa, why can’t we deliver HIV medication?’ And he helped make it happen,” recalls Wu. Instead, his condition is called primary graft failure. That happens in about 3 percent of transplants, Asante-Korang said. He went on the transplant list again the first week in June. So far , he’s been waiting about six weeks. That’s the average wait, Asante-Korang said. At the hospital, Rodgers takes photographs of Roper with her phone and shares them with his siblings. Baby Abandoned On New York Subway Platform | National News – Wgal Home

Baby girl abandoned in NYC subway station; mother questioned | syracuse.com

The woman didn’t get off the train, instead letting the doors slide closed and continuing on, according to the witness. After waiting 20 minutes with the baby on the platform to see whether the caretaker or mother would return for the child, the witness alerted police. Police said early Tuesday that they detained the child’s mother for questioning, and later announced Dabbs’ arrest. The girl is in stable condition at nearby St. Luke’s Hospital. She was not malnourished, though she suffers from a bit of eczema, police said. Aunt: She was looking for help Dabbs told investigators that she was from North Carolina and currently homeless, Markowski said. The detective said she didn’t know how long Dabbs had been in New York or whether the father still was involved with Dabbs and the baby. Lawanna Edmonds, who said she is Dabbs’ aunt, told CNN that the young mother had lived with her and left Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, late last week. Dabbs has had some troubles in her life, and had been arrested for prostitution, Edmonds said. Police records also show that Dabbs had been arrested for possession of marijuana in 2012. Edmonds says she understands why Dabbs may have left her child in the Subway.

NYPD arrests mother of abandoned baby – Yahoo News

NYPD: Mom of Baby Abandoned in Subway in Custody

Police found the mother around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday near 72nd Street and Broadway, according to the Times. Witnesses described her as a black woman in her 20s or 30s with medium-length black hair and wearing a short-sleeved yellow blouse. The baby was taken to St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center and was in stable condition on Monday night. She was unharmed, but suffering from a minor rash, police said. “It’s really disturbing. It’s terrifying. I can’t even imagine what the circumstances are that would cause someone to do that,” witness Karen Rullman, 37, told the Daily News. Another witness, Curt Goldman, 37, told the Times he thought the mother may have deliberately chosen the Columbus Circle station because she wanted to make sure someone would find the girl. “Maybe there was some forethought,” he said. No charges were immediately filed against the woman, though police do believe she intentionally abandoned the child. The investigation is ongoing.

Baby left at NYC subway platform

It was not immediately known who her attorney would be. The mother told detectives in a preliminary interview that she is from North Carolina and came to New York on July 2. She said the baby’s father died recently in California. “She felt she couldn’t take care of the baby and thought she was leaving her in a safe public space,” said Stephen Davis, spokesman for the New York Police Department. The baby, who is about 10 months old, was examined at Roosevelt Hospital, and doctors found no apparent signs of trauma, police said. She was placed in the care of the city’s Administration for Children’s Services. Authorities were notified of the mother’s whereabouts by someone who recognized her from photos and video police released showing a woman pushing the child through a subway turnstile gate. A passenger had seen the woman and child board the train at 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue, police said. The passenger got off at Columbus Circle and noticed the unattended stroller on the platform and the mother inside the train.

Mom accused of leaving baby in road during argument |
WHAS11.com Louisville

The contractions are getting closer together!” Andrew ran around cleaning litterboxes and setting out food and making sure the cats – all of them – were taken care of. Our daughter was born that day. My parents returned early from their trip, and Andrew and I brought the baby home from the hospital. And then the routine of our new life as a family began. Every morning, we would feed Mina upstairs in the attic and Waldo in our bedroom, while Pom and Flora ate downstairs. (Between the gluten-free food for Pom and Mina’s new renal diet, we had to be extra vigilant about keeping them separate during mealtimes.) When Mina and Waldo were finished, we would clear their plates and open the attic door, so Pom and Flora could safely enter. Andrew would scoop the litterboxes, and then we would administer Mina’s first round of medication – that is, if the baby wasn’t crying. It took two people to give Mina her IV and pills, so if the baby needed me, the cat had to wait. As the day went on, we would alternate caring for the baby with breaking up standoffs between the cats. It went on and on from there. My parents helped where they could, both with the baby and with the cats. A Family Forever As stressful as all this was – a strange house, a sick cat, a new baby – we never considered getting rid of the cats. In fact, some good came from it.

That mother, Dunia Abdullahi, 20, was charged with wanton endangerment and faced a judge on June 27. Baby Zina is only 3-months-old. Neighbors said they spotted her crying in the middle of the street on June 26 with nothing on but a diaper. Court papers state the argument was over the father’s alleged refusal to pick up Zina and take her to the ER for an illness. Neighbor Toni Yelder said cars were traveling down the street at the time. Police records state that the baby was about five feet off the curb, and her mother had gone back into the house. Yelder said she pleaded with the mother to pick the baby up. “I put my feet on the concrete to see how hot it was outside and it was real hot on that concrete so I said girl get that baby up, she said. Police records state that the mother aggresively aproached anyone who tried to pick the child up, saying it was her child and to leave the child alone. It was 87 degrees at the time, and the asphalt was even hotter. Witnesses said the baby was on the asphalt for 15-20 minutes; the mother said it was closer to five minutes. One expectant mother said she could not imagine putting her own child in harm’s way.

Baby Delivered From Teen Shooting Victim Survives – Chicagotribune.com

Photos: Lailani Casara

Emergency room physicians performed CPR as obstetricians raced to cut the baby out of her abdomen. From the first incision, it took them just 30 seconds to deliver, said Dr. Fouad Al-Qawasmi, lead obstetrician. Had the victim arrived 10 minutes later, the baby would have certainly died, he said. The doctor recalls being joyous and sorrowful all at once. “She won’t see her baby,” the father of five children recalled thinking. “We saved one, but we’re not going to save the other.” Family members said another physician told them the dying mother reached out her hands as Lailani was born, her last sign of life. But resuscitation couldn’t save her. Eva Mae Casara died shortly before 11 a.m. on Dec. 26. There was no time to grieve. “You can’t even break down,” said Vargas, 35.

Franklin Parish Sheriff’s deputies caught up with her at a local hospital at round 1:30 a.m. after ER staffers reported the child’s horrific injuries. After questioning, Allen was arrested and charged with attempted murder. Police said the act was a bizarre and demented attempt to get a reaction from the child’s father. On Saturday, Allen called the man with a story that the child had fallen from a car window. When she didn’t hear back from him, she staged the event, hoping the child would suffer cuts and bruises and thus cover up her lie, police said. Another child, 7, was in the backseat at the time and witnessed the event, KTVE-TV reported. “She arranged it, basically staging this event to where it would look like an accident,” Franklin Parish Sheriff Kevin Cobb told the station. The child was in stable condition at a hospital Shreveport, where it was scheduled to undergo surgery, Parish said. Allen was charged with attempted second-degree murder and was being held at a Franklin Parish jail on $750,000 bail. KTVE Cops say Allen was going about 45 mph when she pushed the child out of the passenger seat on a windy road in rural Winnsboro, La. According to the station, she has five other children. All of them were in the custody of child services.

Mom tossed 20-month-old baby from moving car while 7-year-old watched: cops  – NY Daily News

Lasasha Allen, 23, of Winnsboro, La., is facing attempted murder charges for pushing her own child out of a moving car.

The situation was much more dire than we had imagined: Mina was in renal failure and had to stay in the hospital, hooked up to an IV, indefinitely. For days, we drove back and forth to visit her. I was gigantic and uncomfortable. Outside, the temperature dropped to 8 below zero. A pipe burst in the house, and we had no hot water. Finally, we were able to take Mina home with instructions for administering three different medications – liquids and pills – and IV subcutaneous fluids every day. At least we were all safe and warm. And Baby Makes … Five? Andrew joked that if the baby came while my parents were still away, he would just empty a giant bag of dry cat food onto the floor of the living room and run. There were too many pets to think about!

De Blasio Bad Mother Fall-out: Why Are We So Quick To Condemn? – Cnn.com

New York Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio celebrates his victory on Tuesday, November 5, with supporters and his children Dante, left, and Chiara, second left, and his wife, Chirlane McCray, right.

What these stories do, women say, is make other moms feel less confident to speak out about how motherhood, for them, might not be “this cookie cutter, sugar coated version,” said Norman Nathman, who also hosts a blog called The Mamafesto. “How many people complain about their jobs and nobody questions their ability to do X, Y and Z?” she said. “But yet when it comes to motherhood, where we’ve placed all this pressure on parents and specifically, obviously women to turn out amazing kids, any kind of negative comment and we’re blasted.” There has been a trend, Levey said, of female bloggers and authors writing sarcastically about what a bad mother they are, almost making it “cool” to be the “griping mom.” But get serious and the response is not quite the same, she said. “If you actually admit that maybe on a real level, you think, ‘Oh my God, maybe I really messed up (as a mom),’ that’s not OK,” said Levey. “So you can be snarky and sarcastic but you can’t be honest.” Stay in touch! Don’t miss out on the conversation we’re having at CNN Living.

Mother told kidnapped US daughter to tell police – Yahoo News

As a mother, Rivarde continually stresses the importance of being able to love yourself, and expresses her personal struggles along her journey. She shares many nuances that separated Bobby from many of his peers. Bobby had a special gift of simply being himself, making people laugh, and empowering them to appreciate and enjoy their lives. Rivarde asserts that the youth that assaulted Bobby represent an increasing epidemic with many youth in today’s society. Rivarde states, “The problem with the boys who murdered Bobby is that they didn’t even love themselves. How could I expect them to respect my son when they don’t even respect themselves? They didn’t even care what happened to them, so how could I expect them to care about somebody else. We constantly tell the kids, ‘respect each other, and love each other.'” I am grateful for Monique Rivarde. Her life models many things, but one thing stays with me.

Police say the alleged kidnapper, Isidro Garcia, had told the victim that her mother had given up looking for her. The two had subsequently been married and had a daughter. Bertagna said the mother showed the daughter news articles written at the time of her disappearance to prove that she had gone to the police and filed a missing persons report.
